The Hakuhodo DY Group fulfills its basic responsibilities as a company through endorsing the UN Global Compact's Ten Principles and aligning our fundamental actions, constituting the foundations of our Sustainability, with the ISO 26000’s seven core subjects—organizational governance, human rights, labor practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and development.
Approach to Sustainability
The Hakuhodo DY Group’s philosophy on sustainability is to create and spread new happiness among sei-katsu-sha and society.
Finding solutions to the constantly changing challenges facing sei-katsu-sha and society and providing them with new value, thereby creating and spreading new happiness among sei-katsu-sha and society.
Each employee is engaged in two types of Sustainability.
1. Basic Sustainability
The Group’s obligations as a company through the observance of international laws and standards as well as the Hakuhodo DY Group Code of Conduct and Matters for Compliance
2. Advanced Sustainability
Responsibilities to be discharged to sei-katsu-sha and society by each individual through our day-to-day work, while drawing on our creative capabilities, ability to communicate, and unique personal attributes
The Hakuhodo DY Group carries out its Sustainability with a sense of purpose, drawing on each individual’s creativity, knowledge, skills, and power of action, which are based on the individual’s aspirations.
Creating happiness is the aim of the Hakuhodo DY Group and its employees, and this gives us happiness as well.

About Advanced Sustainability
Advanced Sustainability refers to proactive actions unique to the Hakuhodo DY Group.
Each employee, in the course of their daily work, thinks about their knowledge and skills and asks, “Is my work contributing to society?” and “Is there anything more I can do for society?” and then takes appropriate action.
Advanced Sustainability means fulfilling responsibilities to sei-katsu-sha and society by each individual through our day-to-day work, while drawing on our creative capabilities, ability to communicate, and unique personal attributes.

Sustainability Implementation Structure
We have in place the Hakuhodo DY Group Sustainability Committee as a governance organ, and the Group ESG Subcommittee as an implementation organ for sustainability.
The Hakuhodo DY Group Sustainability Committee
A Groupwide collegial body chaired by the President of Hakuhodo DY Holdings with membership including directors of Hakuhodo DY Holdings and its major subsidiaries and affiliates. The Committee meets twice a year.
The committee is responsible for considering and determining Group sustainability policies, strategies, and various measures.

Group ESG Subcommittee
An organ to promote more effective sustainability actions working with Group operating companies. Environmental (E), Social (S), and Governance (G) subcommittees discuss policies, goals, and activities for their respective themes.
United Nations Global Compact Initiatives
As a signatory* to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the Hakuhodo DY Group supports the UNGC’s Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption, and submits an annual report on implementation of related policies and activities.
* In 2005, Hakuhodo became the first advertising company to join the UN Global Compact. Hakuhodo DY Holdings became a signatory in 2014.
The Group is an active collaborator in the UNGC, and has acted as the SDGs Taskforce Leader at Global Compact Network Japan, among other activities.
What is the United Nations Global Compact
The UNGC is a voluntary initiative in which companies and other organizations act as good members of society and participate in creating a global framework for realizing sustainable growth by taking leadership roles in a responsible and creative manner.
The UNGC was proposed in 1999 at the World Economic Forum (Davos) by then Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan, and officially launched at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in July 2000.
